140degrees Baby!

It's time for Mama Kat's Writers Workshop:)

1.) Your 15 minutes of fame.

Not sure you can handle my fame because it's HOT... and I mean really HOT!!!  Last summer, we hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon with my 10 year old son and 7 year old daughter.   This had been a dream of my husbands and we talked about it when we dated.  I went along with it  "Yes, dear that sounds like fun!" never really believing that we would do it.  But crazy as it sounds... we did do it.  It was challenging, exhilirating, daunting, fun, scary, rewarding and best of all we made it out to tell of our adventure.  So my 15 minutes of fame you ask?  I wrote a story about it and was featured in our local family magazine, Chesapeake Family Magazine.  The kids were even on the front cover and loved when one of their teachers asked them for an autograph.  I am so, so, so proud of them.  Now when they start in on the "I can't do... blah.. blah.. blahh....!" , I reply "Oh yes you can.  You can do anything... you hiked the Grand Canyon!"

  2. Was it really 140 degrees down there? I remember hiking the Grand Canyon. I got sunburned bad, but it wasn't that hot. I just remember I couldn't stand to be in any direct sunlight the next day. we didn't go all the way down though.

  3. Wow! That's pretty awesome! That is definitely on my bucket list-although my kids need to be a little older before we do that as a family!

  5. Jeepers, nice one. My kids are still so small, we are lucky if we can make it to the park on our bikes. Very inspirational, it will be fun when I can do something challenging like this with them.

  10. I've given you a Stylish Blogger Award for sticking it out in that heat. My family lives in AZ and I take my boys there every summer and we live in the pool for 2 weeks straight. I'm holding out on the grand canyon until the little one gets a little older. Glad you had a good time
    Have a great weekend!

  12. Amazing! That inspires me to challenge myself along with my children. We have a local gorge that is a hop, skip, and a jump and I've never even walked down there. If your kids can hike the grand canyon, I can get down there! :) Thanks for the inspiration!

  13. Wow! I'm impressed. And inspired! Not that I plan on hiking the Grand Canyon anytime soon, but I do want to get out and hike more now that the weather is improving. Very cool that your kids did it, too!
